About me.
I’m Jamie Lord. I love building software, and I’ve been doing it in various shapes over the years — architect, developer, CTO, consultant. Right now it’s mostly as a Solution Architect at CDS, a digital consultancy serving the UK public sector.
Most of my time goes on Single Online Home, a national policing platform that serves almost every UK police force in England and Wales. It’s a hybrid Azure and Cloudflare estate, which means the tools I reach for at work are often the tools I end up writing about here.
A lot of my attention these days is on agentic engineering — how teams actually work with AI tools like Claude Code day-to-day, rather than treating them as novelties. I wrote the section of CDS’s engineering handbook that covers our practice: working with CLAUDE.md files, using TDD to keep agents honest, reviewing AI-written PRs properly. Alongside that I build MCP servers for enterprise data, and I wrote the AI governance framework we use with public-sector clients.
Separately, I’m writing Architecting on Cloudflare — a book about Cloudflare’s Developer Platform for people evaluating edge-native design against AWS, Azure, or GCP. It’s in beta now.
Before CDS I co-founded HeadClear in 2021 and spent two years as CTO. We built a privacy-preserving employee wellbeing platform — vital signs measured through a phone camera, no stored video, ML models for anomaly detection. Before that I took Flexipay from a legacy desktop payroll product to a multi-tenant SaaS serving a few thousand UK organisations.
It’s still pretty rare that I’m not working on a side-project or two (more on GitHub) — usually an excuse to try a new framework or a new combination of Cloudflare primitives. Longer-form writing that doesn’t fit a technical blog lives at nearlyright.com. This site is, by choice, a Jekyll static site I shaped myself.
